In order to avoid the self consciousness of the self portrait while still looking at the face, we take a close up view which abstracts features and allows for very close observation. We discuss texture, tone, volume and value. This zoomed in vantage point allows for more honest observation and less assumptive drawing. This is charcoal on 22x30 in Arches paper.
